Florida TE depth continues take hits

Florida’s tight end depth has taken another hit with the announcement that freshman Colin Thompson will undergo foot surgery that should sideline him at least two months.

Thompson will have a screw inserted into his right foot from an injury he sustained in high school which has never healed correctly.

“I met with (head team physician) Mike Moser several days ago and generally this is a six-week procedure, but he’s re-doing a procedure so he said, ‘Will, it’s probably going to be longer than that,’” Will Muschamp said Monday via ESPN.com.

One of the top tight end prospects of the 2012 class, Thompson was expected to play this season. However, his absence leaves only three healthy TEs for the Gators just weeks before the start of the season -- none of which have caught a pass in a game.

Starter Jordan Reed is still recovering from a knee injury. A.C Leonard transferred from the team following his offseason arrest.
