South Carolina starting CB out at least a month with leg injury

Mychal Bailey Akeem Auguste AP

When South Carolina kicks off the 2012 season against Vanderbilt — which (to me) already has the recipe for an upset — it’ll be doing so without projected starting cornerback Akeem Auguste.

The school announced Monday that Auguste had a procedure on his right thigh muscle which will sideline him for the next four to five weeks. At that point, he will be re-evaluated by a team doctor.

It’s a tough blow for both South Carolina and Auguste, a fifth-year senior who already took a medical redshirt in 2011 season because of a foot injury.

Auguste played in all 14 games in 2010 as a free safety and finished sixth on the team with 58 tackles.

That makes it a little bit tougher on their thin secondary for sure. Hope the young man heals well, and gets to play his last year.
