Minnesota State coach arrested on child porn charges

Todd Hoffner

As though the Jerry Sandusky case wasn’t enough, there’s more disturbing news from the world of college football that unfortunately involves exploiting innocent children.

The Mankato Free Press reports that Minnesota State coach Todd Hoffner was booked into the Blue Earth County jail Tuesday afternoon on charges related to child pornography. Hoffner was originally escorted off a university practice field on Friday and placed on administrative leave, though the school has not elaborated on the situation.

An investigation into the charges have already begun, Blue Earth Co. Capt. Rich Murry told the Free Press.

We began investigating yesterday,” Murry said. “Based on information from our initial investigation we executed a search warrant at his residence Monday morning.”

Formal charges have not been filed against the coach, who is in his fifth year with the school.

    Simultaneously sad and disgusting.

I can honestly say that I didn’t know there was a real Minnesota State football team

  3. blackdonnelly says: Aug 21, 2012 8:59 PM

Yes there is, although the team depicted in “Coach” had a substantially better winning percentage (LOL)

That out of the way – what’s next?

The debacle at Penn State was bad enough……..

Let’s bring back the aggressive coaching style because all these pedophiles are not working out.

is this coach a transfer from the old regime at pedophile, I mean penn state?

Hmm. Let’s apply the same insane hatred that was applied to PSU! How could they let this happen? If must have been the football culture. Clearly, NCAA sanctions and a possible Death Penalty are warranted. Also, let’s review the University’s accreditation and indict all the fans for “ignoring and worshipping” the program and putting football first.

No? You mean we should hold the actual guilty parties responsible? Hmmm. You don’t say….

mancave001 – well, it says he’s been there for 5 years. So, if he was investigated 5 years ago, seen raping a boy in the showers by an assistant 4 years ago, and continued to rape children in the meantime for the last four years…and the president, AD, and other coaches knew but decided not to do anything about it…

Yeah, I guess I’d agree with you then.

Did that stuff happen? Because that would be inexcusable.

I also did not know there was really a Minnesota State football team… I thought it was fictitious… and now after hearing this; I wish it was.

Did they take his statue down yet?

This is not the only Minnesota State University in Minnesota. This one is in Mankato, where it was called Mankato State during the running of the tv show, but I believe Morehead and possibly Crookston are MSU, not UMM or UMC. Mankato, however, is called MSU while Crookston is called Minnesota-Crookston, etc. at least in the Northern Sun.

Can only hope that a mistake has been made and the allegations prove to be false. If you read the article carefully and ignore the sensationalism aspect to it, the only thing known absolutely at this point is that, a) an investigation into the charges had already begun, b ) “based on information from our initial investigation we executed a search warrant at his residence Monday morning”, which obviously can’t be a good thing, and c) formal charges have not been filed against the coach, which may be nothing more than a formality depending on what’s found during the search.

Man, I’d love to believe there’s nothing to this story, but I have a lot of friends in law enforcement, and if I’ve learned anything from them it’s that they don’t execute search warrants without about a 99.9% chance they’re going to find what they expect to find.

Like “latchbeam” said, I wish Minnesota State really was just fictitious creation of Craig T. Nelson’s.

played for this dude at UWSP, always thought he was a little creepy.

Since he has not officially (formally) been charged with it, there is obviously some doubt on it. So lets see what comes of it first. Not looking good for him, but its obviously not a slam-dunk case either.

Would have nice to start the college football season with something happy. This disgusting excuse for a human being screwed that idea.

I am truly amazed at the anti-Penn State restraint.

When I saw the headline, I braced for more tirades from the lynch mob.

    Maybe we’re finally moving on!

Just wait until another big university gets caught! Trust me it will happen within 6 months!

as the pathetic supporters of Pedd State chime in. Think this guy get a mill a year in salary with a couple of million in perks every year for the football program? Think the president, AD, and all the related staff thought twice about supporting this guy? Think the students went to the streets in violent alcohol fueled ‘support’ protests? Doubt this guy will get the JoPa treatment.

And just remember no where does it say he touched any kids. With computers now it’s a lot easier to get the pornogophy. If it’s found that he touched kids…..line him up against a wall and shoot him. The world does not need ‘people’ like that.
