After starting more than a baker’s dozen games the past two seasons, Justin Washington‘s ability to add to that total under first-year head coach Rich Rodriguez may have taken at least a short-term hit.
The Arizona coach confirmed Tuesday that the co-starter at defensive tackle has been indefinitely suspended from the Wildcats football team. And, as if you needed to ask, the suspension resulted from unspecified violations of team rules.
Rodriguez, though, more than slightly left the door ajar for a return.
“He’s got to do some things to get back with the team,” Rodriguez said. “Right now, he’s not practicing and he’s got to do some other things before we allow him to join the Wildcats.”
Washington started nine games as a redshirt freshman in 2010 and totaled 11.5 tackles for loss and 46 total tackles. In the six games he started last season, the numbers were two and 18 in the same categories, respectively.
He was listed as an “OR” as a starter entering summer camp earlier this month.
