Mo Isom tweets she didn’t make the cut as LSU kicker

Already turned away once for a spot on LSU’s roster as a place kicker, Tigers soccer player Mo Isom tried her luck again earlier this week during tryouts for a chance to be on the team.

Unfortunately for Isom, luck wasn’t on her side -- again. Isom didn’t make the cut, unless the following message from her Twitter account is completely misleading.

I am heartbroken, but my head is held high,” Isom said via Twitter. “Knowing I gave everything I had is the greatest victory. Unending thanks to my LSU football fam[ily].”

It’s a tough break for Isom, who gained plenty of publicity for trying out twice for sport ruled by the opposite sex. Miles encouraged Isom to give tryouts another shot after cutting her in the spring. This time around, Miles was mum when asked about Isom’s chances of making the squad.

"[She] made a couple and missed a couple,” Miles said.

But, in the end, Isom is like other athletes chasing a dream or a goal. It just didn’t work out for her, and that’s too bad. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t rooting for her. She has a great story and people latch on to that.

She worked hard and gave it her all -- that’s all anyone can ask -- but Miles has to make decisions that are best for the team. That means picking the best athletes at each position.
