Ole Miss likely without top back for opener

Hugh Freeze‘s first season at Ole Miss has likely gotten a bit tougher, at least early on in the year.

On Wednesday, the Rebels head coach acknowledged there is the distinct possibility his team will be without running back Jeff Scott Saturday against Central Arkansas. Scott has battled a back issue throughout camp, and Freeze didn’t sound optimistic in the junior’s availability for the opener.

“Not sure what’s exactly going on there,” Freeze said during the SEC coaches teleconference. “He still could play but I’m not real confident as of today.”

Scott led the Rebels with 529 yards and six rushing touchdowns last season. He was also fifth in receptions with 15.
