Jim Mora wanted to get off to a new — a better — start at UCLA in 2012. So he named redshirt freshman Brett Hundley the starting quarterback over the veteran, but oft-injured, pair of Kevin Prince and Richard Brehaut.
So far, looks like Mora’s one for one.
On his first snap as a college quarterback Hundley took it 72 yards to the house to put the Bruins up 6-0 on Rice (Ka’imi Fairbairn‘s extra point was blocked).
Hundley’s also 1-for-1 passing for 36 yards. So, two plays, 108 yards. Not bad.
There’s obviously a lot of game left, and the real story is how Hundley looks overall against a winnable opponent, but he’s off to a hell of a start.

Hundley is impressing all 87 people in the stands.
So much for Neuheisel’s evalation of talent to save his job ??!!! He should have “let it rip” and go for it instead of redshirting Hundley. What a shame and i was rooting for him…………..
Who knows whether hundley was even ready last year. To say he would have brought this level of excitement and execution under slick Rick is a big assumption. I’m just happy the kid looked legit in week 1 and they showcased the skill position talent.
Starting Hundley would not have been any worse then playing those two “brittle” QB’s. Last season it seemed as that whichever one started could never finish a game. Ridiculous and with the rumors running wild about Neuheisel having to win or get the boot he should have rolled the dice !!!
