APNorth Carolina State and Tennessee have been tabbed as sleeper picks in their respective divisions in the ACC and SEC. Tonight’s game between the two in Atlanta also features a pair of quarterbacks that are a bit under the radar as well.
So far, though, Tyler Bray and Mike Glennon are showing they can spin it with the best of ‘em. Bray got the Vols on the board first with a beautiful pump fake and throw to Cordarrelle Patterson for a 41-yard touchdown — and over NC State’s All-American corner David Amerson, no less.
I wasn’t a big believer in Bray heading into the season because of questions surrounding his maturity, but so far he’s throwing some nice passes.
Glennon’s responded with some beautiful throws down the seam of his own. Both QBs are playing well early.
This game could be a lot of fun.
NC State leads early, 7-6
Updated 8:36 p.m ET: Well, it’s only appropriate that as soon as I hit ‘publish’, Tennessee begins to pull away. Bray continues to play well, but he’s throwing to wide open receivers. Coincidentally enough, it doesn’t look like the Vols are missing Da’Rick Rogers too much. UT’s getting plenty of other playmakers tonight at that position.
Wow! What a surprise! The ACC loses a non-conference game (rolls eyes).
Didn’t State kick WVU’s ranked ass in bowl game year before last????
UT looked great in several areas of the game, especially on D with hard hits and the INTs. NC State is a good team and they will get better next week – their DBs aren’t going to get burned as bad as they did tonight the rest of the season. Go Big Orange!
Cordarelle Patterson looked like he could have gone straight from being a JUCO transfer to the NFL. How was this guy overlooked?
That was a beatdown. NC State looked like a MAC team against the Vols.
