Solich lands long-term extension from Bobcats

In Frank Solich‘s seven years at Ohio University, the former Nebraska head coach has turned the Bobcats into a solid, respectable MAC football program.

Now, Solich will have many more years in which to continue his building efforts at the school.

Ohio announced via a press release Thursday evening that Solich is on the receiving end of a five-year contract extension. The coach is now signed through June of 2017, a fact that left the school’s athletic director giddy to the point of delirium.

“There is no better college football coach in the country than Frank Solich,” Jim Schaus said in a statement. “He is instrumental in building one of the most successful eras in Ohio Athletics history. Under his leadership, Ohio Football has become a nationally competitive and highly recognized program. Our future is bright and I am confident that we will continue to build excellence in Ohio Football.”

During Solich’s run in Athens, the Bobcats have gone 50-40 and appeared in three straight bowl games. Last season, the Bobcats, which won 10 or more games for the first time in over four decades, won the MAC East title and produced the first bowl win in the school’s history.

“I couldn’t be happier to continue my head coaching career here at Ohio University,” Solich said. “I have been very pleased with what we as a staff have been able to accomplish in seven years here, but we still have more things to do and I look forward to the opportunity of reaching our goals. We have a tremendous group of student athletes, coaches, support staff and administrators who have really bought in to what we’re all about.”
