A single injury suffered late this past week will cost Georgia some a starter/depth at the cornerback/wide receiver position this weekend.
UGA announced Friday afternoon that Malcolm Mitchell will not play in the season opener vs. Buffalo after sustaining a left ankle injury. Mitchell suffered the injury during practice Thursday.
Mitchell is listed as one of the starting corners as well as the No. 3 flanker on the most recent depth chart.
There is no word yet on the two-way player’s availability for UGA’s SEC opener vs. Missouri the following weekend.
As a true freshman last season, Mitchell finished second on the Bulldogs in receptions (45) and receiving yards (665). Thanks to attrition at the position, and the fact that he played in the secondary in high school, Mitchell was moved to cornerback during the spring, with the thought being he would move back to the other side of the ball as players returned from suspensions/injuries.
