LSU QB Zach Mettenberger leaves game briefly after hit

The excitement LSU fans felt for the start of the Zach Mettenberger era was put on hold briefly. Though the Tigers are having no trouble handling North Texas as expected, there was a moment of concern in Tiger Stadium.

Late in the first quarter, Mettenberger took a shot from UNT cornerback Hilbert Jackson on a third-down play. Mettenberger was taken to the sideline and attended to by team trainers. He would eventually head to the locker room before emerging back on to the field a short time later.

It was thought that perhaps Mettenberger had suffered a concussion and he sat out a few series. He’s been solid so far tonight, throwing for 97 yards as LSU leads UNT 24-7 with just a couple of minutes before halftime.

Based on the hit Mettenberger took, a couple more scores and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Les Miles pull his starter.
