NC St. corner hit with multi-game suspension

Ahead of North Carolina State’s season opener, head coach Tom O’Brien announced that starting cornerback C.J. Wilson would miss the Friday game vs. Tennessee due to eligibility issues.

As it turns out, that was the first of a handful of games Wilson will miss due to the same issue.

O’Brien announced Monday that Wilson has been slapped with a four-game academic suspension by the NCAA. As the defensive back has already served one game of the suspension, he’ll be eligible to return for the Sept. 29 game at Miami.

The suspension will cost him the road game against UConn this weekend, along with home games against South Alabama and Citadel.

Wilson has already graduated, but did not pass enough credit hours in the spring semester (six) to be eligible per NCAA standards. He did pass 12 credit hours during the two summer sessions, which O’Brien said helped his case with the NCAA.

Over the past three seasons, Wilson has started 29 games for the Wolfpack.
