Florida State favored by 70.5 points against Savannah State

Justified or not, there was a kerfuffle of sorts last Saturday when No. 18 Oklahoma State killed, cleaned and stuffed 1-AA Savannah State by a score of 84-0. The line on the game was 67.5 points in favor of the Cowboys.

That’s officially been trumped by No. 6 Florida State, which gets the honor of hosting the Tigers in Week 2. Per pregame.com, the Seminoles are now a 70.5-point favorite over SSU. It’s reportedly the biggest spread ever*.

Savannah State, as you may recall, was added to Florida State’s schedule in the 11th hour after West Virginia dropped the game to head to the Big 12 (and a nine-game conference slate). The Tigers are reportedly getting $475,000 for what will surely be a game over in the first quarter.

It’s also FSU’s second 1-AA opponent -- the ‘Noles opened the season against Murray State and won 69-3 -- meaning this Saturday’s game will not count toward the team’s bowl eligibility. There’s nothing to gain by playing Savannah State other than allowing backups to get more reps.

Fisher should (and probably will) pull his starters by halftime -- at the latest. Get the W and move on. It’s not FSU or SSU’s fault, but this game has no business taking place.

(*I don’t know if that’s true and I don’t care. I don’t bet my money on things I have no control over.)
