After an injury-filled career, quarterback Jordan Wynn‘s playing days are over at the University of Utah. Wynn went down with yet another shoulder injury Friday in a loss to Utah State. Turns out, that was the last snap of his football career.
In a Monday press conference, Utes coach Kyle Whittingham confirmed that Wynn could not keep playing. Wynn will likely need surgery again to repair his left shoulder, which was in a sling after he was sidelined against the Aggies. Whittingham says Jon Hays, who has come in for Wynn before, has the upper hand in the job to replace the veteran quarterback.
Wynn finishes his time with the Utes with 4,637 passing yards and 33 touchdowns. He will remain an active part of the team through this year.
It’s been that kind of career for Wynn, whose seasons in both 2010 and ‘11 were cut short because of shoulder problems. Wynn originally missed the ’10 Las Vegas Bowl because of a lingering problem to his right (throwing) shoulder and wound up being sidelined for spring practices. In 2011, Wynn suffered an injury to his left (non-throwing) against Washington and was unable to finish the year after tests revealed damage.
It’s just a tough break. No player deserves to out the way Wynn has to. Best of luck to him moving forward.
