Tide RB could be out for season from knee injury

Alabama’s depth in the running game just took a hit following Saturay’s win over Western Kentucky. Nick Saban announced Monday that third-string running back Jalston Fowler would likely miss the season due to knee surgery.

“Jalston’s been a great player in the program -- a really good special teams guy,” Saban said. “A great backup player for us. A really good attitude guy. Lots of character. Really good competitor. “I know he feels badly. We feel badly , too, for him that he can’t be a part and be able to contribute to our team this year.”

Fowler sustained the injury just about midway through the fourth quarter in what would be a 35-0 win by the Tide over the Hilltoppers. Fowler had 11 carries for 85 yards this year and had 395 yards and four touchdowns last season.

While freshman T.J. Yeldon has been the most featured back this year, Fowler was a solid contributor to Alabama’s offense as a fullback/H-back. That’s really where Fowler’s absence will be felt most.

Bama’s backfield should still be in good shape, though.Eddie Lacy has been a bit limited with injuries, but the Tide’s young backfield of Yeldon and Dee Hart have been stepping up well.
