Penn State’s top two backs ‘day-to-day’

Derek Day AP

In leading Penn State in rushing in a season-opening loss to Ohio, Bill Belton was injured and replaced in the starting lineup the following week by Derek Day.

In the loss to Virginia Saturday, Day was injured as well.  Four days ahead of the Nittany Lions’ third game of the season, the availability of the team’s two leading rushers is unknown.

In an update to the statuses of the two backs, head coach Bill O’ Brien said both players are “day-to-day” to play against Navy Saturday.  The good news, though, is that both players are officially listed as “possible” on the injury report.

Day leads the team in rushing with 83 yards, while Belton is second with 53.

The Centre Daily Times notes that junior Curtis Dukes and sophomore Zach Zwinak would likely carry the bulk of the running game load should neither Belton nor Day be able to go.

Curtis Dukes is a beast and should have been getting more carries in the first place.

    Hey Joewillie,
I hope what ever team you route for never has to deal with a scandal. It’s not these kids fault for what happened at the school in the past. No matter what happened in the past these current kids deserve some respect. And before anyone says, “What about the victims? Don’t they deserve respect?” or something along those lines. I feel bad for the victims and have prayed and will continue to pray that they get any help they need in dealing with their emotional and physical struggles related to what happened to them. But not one student athlete or coach on this team had anything to do with it. They deserve some respect. What the school got as punishment well they got what they deserved.

And just what would that be joepa40? Because if you had read any of my posts on any of the other stories if feel bad for the paterno family as well in this matter. Was he perfect? The answer is no. Did he make a mistake? The answer is yes. Is he taking most of the blame because everyone out there knew who he was and not who the other 3 clowns are? Again I say the answer is yes. Is Sandusky the one who all of the blame should be pinned on? Again the answer is yes. So before you go making rude comments to me please know where I stand on things.
