Some players just don’t have any luck. One of them is Purdue quarterback Robert Marve.
Already on the receiving end of two ACL tears, Marve has once again injured that same ligament in his left knee, Boilermakers coach Danny Hope said during his radio show Monday.
“We have our fingers crossed it’s not as serious as it has been in the past and he can still come back and play this season,” Hope said.
The full details of the injury weren’t revealed, so there’s no real timetable for his return. Hope added that he hoped the injury was not as significant as the ones Marve sustained previously. Keep in mind that Marve is currently in his sixth year of college football because of a waiver granted by the NCAA.
Marve missed one season at Miami due to injury, and then missed all but four games during his first season at Purdue in 2010 -- he sat out the 2009 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules -- because of a torn ACL. That injury carried over into a pair of missed games at the beginning of the 2011 season.
Marve started the Boilermakers’ season opener against Eastern Kentucky, but split time with Caleb TerBush in last Saturday’s loss to Notre Dame.
Updated 9/11 @ 12:46 p.m. ET: Via Mike Carmin of the Lafayette Journal and Courier, Hope said that Marve does in fact have a torn ACL. However, the injury does not sound like it’s season-ending, as Marve will have the option to return later in the year. In the meantime, Austin Parker will likely be the Boilermakers’ No. 3 quarterback behind TerBush and Rob Henry.
