Ark. St. gives WR the boot

Less than a week after an off-field incident left him indefinitely suspended, Allen Muse has been permanently barred from any future on-field activities for Arkansas State.

In a press release, head coach Gus Malzahn announced Tuesday that the wide receiver is no longer a part of the football team.

“Allen has faced tremendous tragedy in his life over the last few years,” said Malzahn. “He and I talked and agreed that it was best for him to focus on his personal life and family moving forward. I want to wish Allen nothing but the best in the future.”

Early last Wednesday, the receiver was arrested by university police and charged with third-degree assault. A police report stated that Muse’s mother-in-law called police after the player allegedly broke down a door because his wife locked herself in the bathroom with his phone in her possession.

The senior caught one pass for seven yards in the season-opening loss to Oregon and, obviously, didn’t play in Week 2. For his career, Muse had 65 receptions for 853 yards and seven touchdowns.
