Updated 10:53 p.m. ET: In a post-game interview, South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw said he reaggravated a slight fracture in his right shoulder blade. Shaw first suffered the injury in Week 1 against Vanderbilt.
Not that it affected the outcome of tonight’s game. The No. 8 Gamecocks took care of UAB, 49-6. Dylan Thompson played well enough in Shaw’s absence. The question will be if he’s used against Missouri next week. Steve Spurrier said after the game that he would use two quarterbacks if necessary.

South Carolina is taking care of business, leading UAB 21-6 at the half. It is not, however, taking care of its quarterback.
Connor Shaw, already recovering from a shoulder injury he suffered in Week 1 against Vanderbilt, was knocked to the ground on a pass to Bruce Ellington late in the first half against the Blazers. The pass was good and put the Gamecocks down inside the 10-yard line. Shaw? Not so good.
Shaw stayed on the ground and was eventually helped to the sideline favoring his right (throwing) shoulder. According to ESPN, WLTX and others, Steve Spurrier said that Shaw is done for the night. Dylan Thompson, who played well in a start last week against East Carolina, will play the second half.
Shaw was supposed to resume practice Wednesday so his shoulder could be re-evaluated. Given the opponent, it doesn’t make a lot of sense for Shaw to be playing tonight anyway.
