As we’ve said plenty of other times on this site, there are things in this world that carry far more weight than football, and we’ll always be sure to point that out. But, seeing as this is a football site, we’re also going to note when those circumstances affect the reason you come here.
Unfortunately, LSU was the victim of one of those circumstances. On Monday morning, the school released a message warning that someone -- who clearly has deep-rooted issues -- had called in a bomb threat and directed all students to vacate the campus immediately. The good news is that the threat appears to be just that and no one was hurt.
However, by 2:15 p.m., all activity on campus had been canceled for the day -- including football practice. Players were able to return for film study in the evening, however.
“That part of the day was lost to the threat,” LSU coach Les Miles said. “I think our team will respond and our preparation won’t be hurt.”
LSU is currently practicing for this Saturday’s game against Auburn.
It’s the second time LSU has had to cancel practice this season for circumstances out of its control. The Tigers had limited practice leading up to the Week 1 game against North Texas because of Hurricane Isaac. It’s also the fourth bomb threat called into a university over the past week. The University of Texas, North Dakota State and Hiram College in Ohio all had bomb threats called in over the past week.
In any case, we’re just glad everyone’s okay and hope things return to normal as quickly as possible.
