UConn loses starter to Achilles injury, too

Notre Dame confirmed Sunday that it had lost a defensive starter to a season-ending Achilles injury.

Unfortunately, UConn is in the same defensive boat.

During his Sunday teleconference, head coach Paul Pasqualoni confirmed that starting defensive end Jesse Joseph tore his Achilles in a karma-laden win over Maryland Saturday.  As a result, the senior will miss the remainder of the 2012 season.

Pasqualoni indicated that Joseph, who still has a redshirt season available, will seek a medical waiver that would allow the defensive lineman to play in 2013.

“Jesse is out for the season,” Pasqualoni said during his regular Sunday call for final thoughts on the previous game. “We will try to appeal, because it happened in the first three games. He did not redshirt. We will try to make an appeal for the redshirt season to apply to this year.”

Joseph had started 35 of the past 36 games in which he played.
