John L. Smith to media: ‘Smile!… If not, I’m not talking!’

These are indeed tough times for the Arkansas Razorbacks. A season that once had BCS championship aspirations has tragically morphed into 1-2 start that has taken its toll on both players and fans alike.

Early season struggles haven’t worn on coach John L. Smith, though. Despite the fact that his chances of being the coach of the Razorbacks beyond his 10-month contract are somewhere between no way and no how, Smith is at least coming in every day with a smile on his face and, wait, why aren’t you smiling, media?!?!?!

“Let’s go. You guys look like it’s… pick it up a little bit, Okay? Get your chin up,” Smith beseeched media members at the start of Monday’s press conference. “Smile! Smile! Okay? Dang, you guys all right? If not, I’m not talking!”

As always, #Pray4Arkansas.

Hey he’s trying to change everyones attitudes. Don’t really see a problem with it.

Friends? I think your first media response of…LOL Arkansas…when they lost to ULM did not retain respect and friends here Ben.

He’s making a bad situation worse by acting like an idiot.

It’s not the end of the world yet? Once their leader returns to the field they will get back to kicking people’s asses. There is still a lot of talent on the team. They will turn things around and have a solid season.

I called this before the season started. His pressers would be the most memorable part of this season.

This should be fun. I see a Denny Green-esque meltdown coming soon.

And it’s amazing that obese idiots like Mel and Trevor Barnes supported JLS to the bitter end, Sunshine blowers suck. Always demand excellence.

Here we go again. I kinda feel bad for him. Filed for bankruptcy recently and probably about to loose his job at Arkansas. Must be under a lot of stress.

I wonder if guys like him ever watch themselves on SportsCenter and think, “holy crap, did I really act like that?” I also wonder if they realize the damage it does to their reputation, or the perception of them in the eyes of a potential employer. If you come across as a clown, prepare to join a circus, not another college football program.

Arkansas should hire Jerry Jones as head coach. He can coach them and the Cowboys at the same time…get a little farm league thing running.

That’s the same thing the captain told the crew of the Titanic after that little incident with the iceberg.

always people there to kick you when your down. I’ll be sure to keep these names to throw it in your face after we win the Cotton bowl this year. Smith may be a clown but certainly no one here could do any better. And yes, The Razorbacks are better than Petrino and any other coach. Just like all college football teams are bigger than the coach!

    You’re an IDIOT

  16. mintberrycrunch1 says: Sep 19, 2012 6:11 PM

As a Michigan State alumni this is hillarious to me.

“The players are playing their butts off, AND THE COACHES ARE SCREWING IT UP!!!!!”

He should just start wearing a clown costume to work.

Arkansas alums must be tearing their hair out by now! Not only do they have a dejected and demoralized team but they also have an idiot for a coach. Smith should have come out and supported the players and his staff and said so in no uncertain terms. Instead, he chooses to act the buffoon. GAD!

Why should JLS be sad? You guys have made it clear he is only HC for 10 mos. He left a HCing job to help you guys in a bad situation, has no authority because he isn’t even calling the shots. Paul Petrino is and all you do is bad mouth him. What did you expect? Oh, that’s right. I remember some of you actually thinking you had a chance to win the SEC and go play in the BCS NC game when you lost your head coach, have NO DEFENSE, and lost really good players to the NFL. I can tell Bequette and Franklin are no longer on your defense. Coach Smith is making the most of a bad situation and you glummy gusses are hanging your heads in shame. Be PROUD of your team. Cheer for them. Bring their spirits up. Write the players letters of encouragement instead of badmouthing your team. That is what fans are supposed to do. Get a better attitude Arkansas fans. And start smiling like JLS.

No money, millions in debt, brother just died, he has NO chance of being a head coach next year, his team has fallen painfully short of expectations…

I kind of feel bad for the guy. At worst, he’s made some bad decisions. Some of his troubles are entirely his fault, some of them aren’t.

Not like he scooted around town with a mistress he put on the payroll. Much less anything that went on like Sandusky.

If he can smile through all of that is going on, more power to him.
