APNo, not the game itself. Just the sponsorship.
Going along with the likes of the (former) Champs Sports Bowl (now known as the Russell Athletics Bowl) and Insight Bowl (now known as the Valley of the Sun Bowl), the New Years Day TicketCity Bowl will no longer be going by that name, according to the Dallas Morning News.
In a release, the CEO of TicketCity said “We would have loved to continue as the title sponsor, but the new ownership group is going in a different direction without a corporate sponsor.” However, the DMN reports that Fair Park’s executive general manager, which oversees the Cotton Bowl stadium, “confirms there is a new ownership group replacing Tom Starr’s Dallas Football Classic, which brought TicketCity on board two years ago.”
An official announcement on the bowl’s new title sponsor is set for Oct. 4. Last season’s winner of the TicketCity Bowl was Houston.
Outside of the schools playing in that game, I don’t think anyone gives a damn!
“Without a corporate sponsor?” In other words, they can’t get one to pay their price…these smaller bowls will have an increasingly hard time when the playoff system comes on.
Tempe’s Valley of the Sun Bowl is now the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.
What? Who cares.
Bring back the Copper Bowl.
