As far as 2012 BCS busters go, Louisiana Tech may have the most realistic chance of getting into one of the five major bowl games this season if the Bulldogs can keep an undefeated record.
That goal became just a little harder with the announcement by coach Sonny Dykes Monday that leading rusher Tevin King would miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL. King suffered the injury in a win over Illinois last Saturday.
The loss of King can’t be stressed enough for a team trying to work its way into the national conversation. King had 353 yards rushing with five touchdowns on the season. His 118 yards per game was best in the WAC and in the top 15 nationally.
The good news for the Bulldogs is that they have a solid freshman in Kenneth Dixon, who has 44 carries already on the season. Dixon, along with King, had combined for most of LaTech’s 697 rushing yards on the year.
