Pair of reserve Trojans done for the year with injuries

The good news (for reporters) is that Lane Kiffin is talking injuries. The bad news (for USC fans) is that Lane Kiffin is talking injuries.

Already thinner than most teams, USC will be without the services of backup middle linebacker Scott Starr (neck) and reserve offensive lineman David Garness (back). Kiffin announced Sunday that both are out for the season.

Starr, a freshman, appeared in three games of the four games the Trojans have played this season, but should be able to get a medical redshirt. Garness, a transfer from the JUCO level, redshirted last season and has yet to see the field in 2012.

From an impact standpoint, neither loss is major, but when you’re dealing with limited scholarship spaces, every injury is magnified a little more.
