APAbsent since Penn State’s season-opening loss to Ohio, running back Bill Belton should be able to make his return this Saturday when the Nittany Lions travel to Illinois.
“He practiced yesterday and looked decent, so we would anticipate him being ready for the game,” Bill O’Brien said Tuesday. “It’s good to have him back because it’s another change-of-pace type of running back.”
Belton injured his ankle against the Bobcats after rushing 53 yards on 13 attempts. He’s been listed as day-to-day for pretty much the last two weeks. PSU has been using a committee approach to the running game this season, employing (so to speak) Derek Day, Michael Zordich and Zach Zwinak, among others, to carry the rock.
Interestingly enough, quarterback Matt McGloin is the only player on the team to record a rushing touchdown (he has two) this season.
