Hokies’ Week 4 leading rusher sidelined with injury

Bowling Green Virginia Tech Football AP

Last week Tony Gregory set a career-high in rushing yards in Virginia Tech’s shutout win over Bowling Green.

This week, as the Hokies close out their 2012 non-conference slate, the running back won’t get the opportunity to immediately followup on that performance.

After initially downplaying the player being limited in practice this week, Tech confirmed Thursday that Gregory will not play against Cincinnati due to a knee issue.  Gregory has been dealing with swelling and soreness in his left knee, the same knee in which he suffered a torn ACL in 2010 and 2011.

Gregory is fourth on the team in rushing with 96 yards, with 68 of them coming last Saturday.

@ JT, I say you just save all your VT postings from this year and simply use them again next year. Seems like every year we hear the exact same thing coming out of Blacksburg. Pre-Season Top 10, “This might be VT’s year to win it all,” and finally “Top VT players goes down w/ injury.”
