Poll: The No. 1 team in the country is…

Baylor v West Virginia Getty Images

At least on the upset front, it was relatively quiet in Week 5.  That wasn’t for lack of effort on the part of a handful of top-ten teams, though.

No. 2 Oregon, No. 3 LSU, No. 4 Florida State, No. 5 Georgia and No. 6 South Carolina were all either severely tested or won by scores that belied the level of competition and I’m looking right at you LSU.

Hell, even No. 1 Alabama was tested early against Ole Miss, falling behind on the scoreboard for the first time since early November last year before for easing away for a comfortable but far-from-a-blowout win.

Aside from those scares, though, you have to go all the way back to Thursday — No. 8 Stanford — to find a Top 25 team that lost to an unranked program in Week 5.

So, with that out of the way and in short and sweet fashion, who ya got as the No. 1 team in the country after this weekend?  Vote below, and whine away in the comments section.

    I am sorry but the real USC is not the number one team it is an will be until someone beats them Alabama now the rest of my top ten looks like this and keep in mind that this is just my humble opinion
    1. Alabama enough said
    2. Oregon truly the second best team in the country
    3. Florida state doing what they are expected to do
    4. Georgia them dawgs got a lot of bite
    5. The real USC this team could be number 4 but Georgia gets the nod because they held serve
    6. LSU I mean I am not even sure if this is a top ten team they miss mathieu on defense offensive line is woeful
    7. Notre dame didn’t play this week freak front seven bad offense did out more as the ur goes along
    8. WVU not sure they deserve this but that offense is lights out defense is just optional though
    9. Texas many thought ok state would beat them and they almost did but the long horns got them in the end.
    10. Florida sorry Ohio state fans I know ur team is good but let’s face it first ur ineligible for a bowl. More importantly u barely beat an over rated Michigan state team and B1g conference well they aren’t playing so big the big east sadly looks better than this conference (right now) the talent is there lets see if teams like Michigan and mi state will finally show up…

    Sorry supposed to say notre dame has a great front seven but the offense is bad Find out more as the season goes along

    SEC EAST favs the “real” USC & Georgia better look over their shoulders & watch the Gators. Gators play LSU,Georgia & South Carolina in the next 4 weeks and will win at least 2 of 3.

    1 = Bama
    2 = Oregon
    3 = FSU

    FSU has by far the weakest SOS so they need help
    Notre Dame is good but NOT enough speed to beat the top tier teams–they played B1G 10 teams and the B1G 10 is down this yr.

    Pretty sure anybody saying, anyone but Bama is just antagonizing. I don’t think it could get any clearer. Also, the real USC? you have got to be kidding me, with the exception of Alabama and Michigan, I don’t think there is a school who can even sniff Southern Cal’s jock.

    NOBODY won convincingly… and I love it.

    Parity = Anything can happen.

    Great season and awesome anticipation for a completely open ending.

    @thraiderskin First off Michigan sucks. Secondly, I think you might want to throw Stanford in that category. 3 years in a row if I’m not mistaken?

    My bad… I’m not saying Michigan is a good team right now… I’m saying Southern Cal, Alabama and Michigan are historic programs with a whole lot of prestige and that South Carolina, having a good year, does not deserve to even think of itself as the real USC… Too me, those 3 programs deserve lots of respect for who they are, even if I hate one of them.

    A lot is being said about the noles strength of schedule. They have cleared their largest hurdle so far, while alabama, lsu, georgia, oregon, and florida remain untested, although SEC homers will say “tennessee, mizzou, and texas a&m are good teams!”. I think by the time fsu gets to miami, the canes will be ranked, and VT might be as well.

    Bottom line, we have to easiest path and best chance to beat the SEC in the NCG.

    I can’t believe that Florida has more votes in this than FSU. The Mellow Mushroom podcast must be advertising this link.
