Video: Tide fans in plane crash: ‘We can still make the game’

If you haven’t heard the story of a group of Alabama fans who had to make an emergency plane landing on their way to last Saturday’s game against Ole Miss, well, it’s pretty incredible.

NBC News has the story, which you can view below. Four friends in a small plane crash-landed in a field about 20 miles from an airport at which they were supposed to arrive. But instead counting their lucky stars and calling it a day, the group hitchhiked to the game and made kickoff.

It’s true. They tailgated by eating the fifth passenger and then went to the game. The only other injury was a broken tooth, leaving 7 teeth among the 4 survivors.

    Roll Tide.

That first comment was pretty funny…. Really a$$hole? That’s what you came up with? My favorite team is The U and I’m classier than that

    Go canes!!

  5. normtide says: Oct 3, 2012 7:38 AM

    Don’t hate

  6. tlmoon2112 says: Oct 3, 2012 8:24 AM

Dont really care that they made the game, just glad they didnt get hurt.

  7. dmvtransplant says: Oct 3, 2012 8:55 AM

So does that mean they just parked a plane in some guys yard and walked away?

  8. cometkazie says: Oct 3, 2012 9:22 AM

Looks more like a cotton field than a yard.

  9. bamasleeper13 says: Oct 3, 2012 9:40 AM

I was at that game, and heard about those fans. So glad no one was hurt. Alabama has a fabulous fan base, if you ever came to the Quad before a game you would see that. If you get bored you can count teeth, we have them all.

I’m sorry, but for some reason, the post that simply said “Roll Tide” left me laughing hysterically. Made me think of those ESPN commercials where the only words in the entire commercial were “Roll Tide”. I have to admit, those were the best commercials EVER. Guy and girl caught making out: “Roll Tide”. Cop gives a guy a traffic ticket: “Roll Tide”. Absolutely LOVED those commercials. Plane crashes, survivors exit the plane: “Roll Tide”.

So if it’s okay for a Florida fan to say it… Roll Tide!

  11. kozbee says: Oct 3, 2012 10:39 AM

What did they do forget to put gas in it..Wheres the police report? Were they drinking, dropping their balls on one another. The pic may be fake just to rile up the fans and team to pull out a win vs Ole Miss.

  12. thecrazyasianinseccountry says: Oct 3, 2012 11:32 AM

I will never say “Roll !!!!?”
Won’t even type it, but glad they’re alright and was able to catch their favorite team play. ” Geaux Tigers!”

  13. tlmoon2112 says: Oct 3, 2012 11:49 AM

@bamasleeper13, I would argue the opposite. Great fans dont tea bag other fans or purposely deface the traditions of other schools.

  14. imaduffer says: Oct 3, 2012 11:55 AM

Thank goodness he was a “trained pilot.” Now, maybe they can find a “trained mechanic.”

  15. kcchief402 says: Oct 3, 2012 12:29 PM

@tlmoon I would disagree with you also. The gentleman said “fanbase” and your argument is a handful of drunks which every fan base has reflects on the entire fan base. You sir sound like a LSU fan. Roll Tide

So if itโ€™s okay for a Florida fan to say itโ€ฆ Roll Tide!

    Same here 727.

This is a good story. Don’t get in the way of SEC fans when they are on their way to a game!

“Roll Tide” is a great cheer, right up there with “Tiger Bait” and “Go to hell, Ole Miss, go to hell.”

  17. tlmoon2112 says: Oct 3, 2012 12:38 PM

KCChief just proved my point about the “fanbase”…and no Im not an LSU fan.

  18. Deb says: Oct 3, 2012 1:06 PM

    tlmoon2112 …

You are talking about TWO people in a fanbase that probably includes millions. We all get it: You hate Alabama. But your need to come on EVERY Bama thread and hate on EVERY Bama fan is ridiculous–that’s why he thought you were an LSU fan. Fortunately, for every vicious LSU fan I’ve encountered on CFT, I’ve also had the pleasure of interacting with cometkazie, thecrazyasian, and many others who are great fun. And that’s why I don’t blame every LSU fan for the actions of a few.

  19. Deb says: Oct 3, 2012 1:10 PM

Ben, they thanked Jesus, which is better than counting their lucky stars. But after going through all that, of course they went to the game. :)

    Roll Tide!

  20. tlmoon2112 says: Oct 3, 2012 1:21 PM

Notice, you said what I do (which is basically just voicing an opinion, which I’m entitled to last time I checked…you know 1st Amendment, all that?) is “rediculous” but you didnt condemn to the “TWO people” I referred to. Again, my point is proven but Im sure you’ll have some kind of comeback.

Look up at the top of the thread. I also said Im glad they didnt get hurt. Just because I dont particularly like a set of people doesnt mean I wish them ill will, unlike the Harvey Updykes and Brian Downings of the Alabama fanbase.

    Peace out!~

  21. cometkazie says: Oct 3, 2012 1:57 PM

Deb, some of us are football fans.

Many of the others do nothing but bloviate.

    It’s just a game.

  22. Deb says: Oct 3, 2012 2:31 PM

    @cometkazie …

    “Bloviate” … I love that! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Saturday night I was watching the end of the Texas/Oklahoma State game, then Sunday night was watching the Giants battle the Eagles. Neither of those games had anything to do with my teams. But both times I was thinking, “Man, I love this game.” That’s what it’s all about.

  23. livedtotellaboutit says: Oct 3, 2012 2:32 PM

To all you well wishers, thank you for your thoughts and prayers. For all you pricks taking cheap shots, you can kiss my crimson a$$. Four old friends got together for some fellowship and to catch a football game. We lost both engines due to mechanical failure. 1 in 36 chance of surviving that type of emergency landing in that aircraft. Through the grace of God we all walked away without a scratch. The first thing we did when we came to a stop was to get on our knees and thank God we had all made it. We all have families; wives, sons, daughters and grandchildren. We were an hour from Tuscaloosa and 3 hours from Mobile. You damn right we went on to the game. What were we supposed to do, go home and watch it on TV?

  24. tide4life says: Oct 3, 2012 2:58 PM

Well, since you already ruined a nice Beech trying to get there, it would be foolish to just go home, wouldn’t it? ๐Ÿ˜‰
Glad you’re all okay! Your lines of inevitability have now crossed and are moving apart again- I’ll fly with you anywhere, Cap’n!

  25. livedtotellaboutit says: Oct 3, 2012 3:03 PM

Thanks for the thought, but it may be a while before I get on another airplane!

  26. Deb says: Oct 3, 2012 3:23 PM

    @livedtotellaboutit …

Congratulations on making it through!!! Glad the Tide gave you a great game for all your trouble. God bless!!!

Thanks for the thought, but it may be a while before I get on another airplane!

I’m glad y’all made it OK and also made the game.

How much was y’all’s dry cleaning bill? *bg*

  28. WingT says: Oct 3, 2012 4:46 PM

Next year you guys might want to consider renting a Winnebago instead :)

Roll Tide and glad you’re all safe

    God Bless!!
Shit how am I supposed to top that? That’s awesome, and thank you for sharing your unpleasant experience with us.
Like you said, it might be awhile longer before you fly again, but one day you and your buddies are going to be able to look back at this event and laugh.
I remembered one time while on a Sunday school bus route, dropping the kids home from church, my bus driver and I witnessed a crime in action. The purse snatcher ran across a busy street, almost getting ran over in the process, and heading our direction. My driver and I decided to go all Starsky and Hutch all of a certain and started pursuit. We managed to corner the purse snatcher in an opened car garage, we slammed the bus to stopped and jumped out yelling, “Stop Police!!” face to face with the crook, all I remember from that moment was staring down a barrel of a shaking .40cal 9mm hand gun.
Ive never done manikin modeling before, I bet you I looked pretty damn good at that moment.
“Man I had said ‘Stop Please’ you see I saw you drop your shoe back over there and wanted to give it back to you!”

Wow, great post! So glad you guys were ok. Some on this site refuse to believe that there are idiot fans in every fan base and that there are great fans in every fan base. ROLL TIDE!

  31. Jennifer says: Oct 3, 2012 7:00 PM

I live in South Bend, Indiana, and as such, am a life-long Notre Dame fan. Went with a big group to an Alabama game years ago and we all left mightily impressed with Bama’s great, cordial fans. I think this is a great, funny story! Thanks for sharing!

  32. abrellbama says: Oct 4, 2012 4:38 AM

Thank goodness no one was injured. And yes, the way Tide fans should do when a miracle occurs, thank Jesus, which they did. Those are some true Bama fans. RTR!

  33. nappyme says: Oct 7, 2012 11:52 AM

Nebraska fan (yeah I know we sucked to hell yesterday) just dropping in to say I’m so glad you all walked away from that and was still able to get to the game. That’s so awesome. One less tragedy to read about makes my day. What a great story.

    God Bless and take care!

P.S. Huskers Rock (but just not yesterday LOL!) I still love ’em though!
