You want a feel-good story amidst the pabulum that currently constitutes the college football news cycle? We got ya covered.
Back in May, it was announced that Oklahoma center Austin Woods had been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Nearly five months later, the offensive lineman is well on his way to pancaking the c-word.
Monday, Woods underwent his final chemotherapy treatment, and earned a well-deserved day off from practice Tuesday. He did, though, speak to the media, and downplayed what was a personally momentous occasion in his his fight against cancer.
“I’m a little more tired than I thought I would be,” Woods said. “I’m not sure if it’s just because of school and lifting and chemotherapy or what.”
Despite regular rounds of chemo throughout the summer and into the season, Woods has been the Sooners’ starting long-snapper and No. 2 left guard every game this season.
God bless you, Austin Woods. And God bless your continued pancaking of this insidious disease.
