Four Wake Forest starters among six suspended for Maryland game

Maryland knows a thing or two about being shorthanded. On Saturday, the Terps will face a Wake Forest team that will be down not one, not two, but four starters. In all, coach Jim Grobe announced in a release Friday that six players have been suspended for tomorrow’s game.

The lucky six are: cornerback Merrill Noel, safety Daniel Mack, linebacker Mike Olson, guard Frank Souza, running back Deandre Martin and receiver Airyn Willis. Grobe only cited a violation of team rules as the reason for the suspension. All will be eligible to be reinstated for the team’s next game at Virginia on Oct. 20.

“I’m disappointed that some of our kids made poor decisions. These are good kids who just need to learn from their mistakes,” Grobe said in a brief statement.

Of the six, Noel, Mack, Olson and Souza are starters and Olson is the team’s leading tackler. Martin is second on the team with 279 yards rushing.
