Updated: James Franklin has a strained MCL, out ‘a few weeks’

James Franklin AP

That would be the Missouri quarterback James Franklin, not the Vanderbilt head coach.

Franklin’s already missed one game this season because of a shoulder injury, now he’ll miss the rest of tonight’s game against the Commodores with a sprained left knee. Franklin sustained the injury in the first half and reportedly will not return.  He was 5-of-9 for 56 yards at the time of the injury.

Corbin Berkstresser has come in and struggled, completing just four passes on 14 attempts for 29 yards. The Tigers ground game is picking up the slack, but Vanderbilt still leads 9-6 early in the third quarter.

Updated 11:30 p.m. ET: Gary Pinkel said after a 19-15 loss to Vanderbilt that starting quarterback James Franklin would miss a few weeks with a strained MCL.

Wouldn’t have mattered, Vandy has a good team.

Welcome to the SEC Mizzou, you were just taken out at home by the perennial SEC doormat. LOL

Remember like 6 weeks ago when that dude from mizz was talking about the SEC being old fashion and that mizz was about to take over??? They just lost to Vandy, the weakest SEC team, well until this year, H-E-L-L-O mizz and welcome!!

For all the non Missouri fans or followers allow me to explain why we can’t make the jump from a solid program to contenders, David Yost, our OC has about 6 plays in his playbook, we’re trying to go East-West in a North-South conference, our secondary couldn’t cover a Jr high team, and Gary Pinkel makes a least one questionable call a game (see fake punt vs UGA)

First two drives with Franklin they were moving the ball easily but has to settle for field goals. After that the offense seized up.

Give MIZ a few years, they will get they type of players you need to play SEC ball. Most in the south knew this year would be rough for them. Like missouriman said, really hard for an east-west offense in this league. But, you need the players to plow north-south. It will take time, but look at USCe. I have no doubt that MIZ will adjust, and be a force in a few years.

Mizzou will be a mediocre SEC team at best. It takes top players all around the field to be a contender in the SEC. Unfortunately, the top players are going to attend the powerhouse schools. I see Mizz being an Arkansas level SEC team. Some years they will be decent and some years they just won’t contend.

Don’t underestimate MZ or their coach they both are good at what they do but injuries have hurt them at what they do.
