Report: starting LSU LB suffers broken ankle

Solomon Patton, Kwon Alexander, Tharold Simon AP

A humbling loss to Florida that cost LSU its unbeaten season and several spots in the latest polls was bad enough.

Now, the loss has apparently cost the Tigers a newly-minted  defensive starter as well.

Citing a source, the New Orleans Times-Picayune is reporting that linebacker Kwon Alexander suffered a broken ankle in the loss.  As a result of the injury, the true freshman (pictured, No. 25) is expected to miss the remainder of the season.

The school has yet to confirm the injury or how long the player will or won’t miss.

Alexander, a four-star member of LSU’s 2012 recruiting class, had started the past two games for the Tigers.

    Heal well and quickly, Kwon.

JT: No Fifth Quarter this week?

  3. John Taylor says: Oct 7, 2012 7:11 PM

@overratedgators: Nope, no Fifth Quarter this week. Here’s the explanation for that development from last weekend’s 5Q:

(Writer’s note: The Fifth Quarter will be taking a one-weekend sabbatical next Saturday as we officially move into the new CFT West Virginia headquarters. Try not to miss me too terribly much.)

And thank you for missing me too terribly much. ;-)

I was about to comment on the missing Fifth Quarter. Miss that info. Missed you JT!

Kwon Alexander is an important part of LSU’s defense. Heal quickly and well! Rehab well, Kwon.

There are now many missing starting veterans from LSU’s starting offense and defense. Injuries affected the blocking for the RBs. Injuries were a part of the reason for LSU’s lack of offense punch, but Florida’s defense was perhaps the biggest part.

LSU will have to have the rookies/freshmen come in and contribute in the upcoming games.

Our best to Kwon and all the injured Tigers. May full health be restored as soon as possible to all.

Wow, somebody better find a shaman or a high priestess pdq cause we need all the help we can get. Kwon, here’s hopin that ankle gets healed just as quick and you’re playin again soon. Geesh Louise, seems as it pours when it sprinkles. I don’t know bout the rest of ya but I’ve got more prayers goin up this season than you can throw out shrimp nets to Zydeco to. It’s as if LSU’s season along with da Saints’ Season will have a huge astrick at the end of it this year for sure. Never have I seen one like this one. Ok, all you Good People have a good week and don’t work too hard and keep sayin those prayers for Southernpatriots and the work they and their family be doin to help others as well as believin in miracles elsewhere.

…and the classy Florida Gator students cheered after every LSU player hit the turf in a very physical game. As if the Gators were the Oregon Ducks and “LSU was trying to slow them down” as I was told by one of the brilliant Gator students. Ignorant statement considering the Gators threw 12 passes, not counting the 5 sacks. Real classy of UF administration to place the obnoxious Gator student section just below the visitors.

Congrats on the win, Gators; UF was the better team. The majority of Gator fans were pleasant before the game and I expect harrassment from a few knuckleheads but the UF adminstration is asking for trouble by placing the student section next to the visitors.

@ForeverLSU, before you start throwing stones in a glass house boss dont forget how LSU students passed around Tebow’s cell phone # and pounded it for days a few years back. No one got injured or tea bagged after the game and to your fans’ credit, none of our trees have been reported to have been poisoned so all is well and sportsmanship won out.

Stopping to pray for this kid, I hate seeing any of these kids get hurt.

  9. foreverlsu says: Oct 8, 2012 10:12 AM

    @tlmoon

Fair enough. I thought it was childish for LSU students to pass Tebow’s number around as well but don’t compare that to cheering when LSU players get hurt. I have all the respect for Tim Tebow and he is a great representation for UF.

Again, a large majority of Gator fans were great to us but the UF administration should not place the visitors next to the obnoxious students. LSU has it’s fair share of knuckleheads too but the students are placed no where near the visitors in Tiger Stadium. I would not have witnessed the obscene behavior if the student were on the other side of the field.

Congrats on the win and good luck the rest of the way.

Hi there LSU…….there’s an a** kickin chicken coming your way this weekend. Better get well in a hurry!

  11. foreverlsu says: Oct 8, 2012 2:22 PM

Bring it, cock. You’ve got the better team this week and I’ll be surprised if you don’t win based on LSU’s injury situation.

Maybe South Carolina will win a title of any kind in their history this year. Go ahead and peacock while you can.

  12. cometkazie says: Oct 8, 2012 2:37 PM

I believe SC won half of the last four College World Series. LSU won four years ago.

And I’m a LSU fan. Give credit where and when it’s due.

  13. foreverlsu says: Oct 8, 2012 3:03 PM

talking about Football here cometkazie; it’s CFT in case you didn’t realize.

Did I miss any FOOTBALL titles won by the cocks over the last 50 years?

  14. foreverlsu says: Oct 8, 2012 3:04 PM

…like an SEC East, SEC, ACC, or even a national title

  15. alligatorsnapper says: Oct 8, 2012 3:19 PM

    foreverlsu:

My memory may be failing me, but I seem to remember that in Auburn’s NC season, they won the West and South Carolina won the East, I think that was 2010, so if that is correct, it fulfills your first requirement which was “…like an SEC East…”

Now, I must admit, I do not know of any other. Southernpatriots knows several hall of fame Gamecock players and I never heard of them talk of any SEC, ACC, or NC season.

  16. cometkazie says: Oct 8, 2012 3:24 PM

Well, you did say “title of any kind,” but your point is made.
    :)

  17. foreverlsu says: Oct 8, 2012 3:57 PM

You’re right cometkazie and I apologize.

snapper, i did forget about the 2010 East title, I’m sure cock fans want to forget about that championship game too though.

Cocks did win an ACC title waaaaaay back in 1969. Why they left the ACC after that is a mystery to me for a school that did not win its first bowl game until the prestigious Carquest Auto Parts Bowl in 1994.

You are a jealous fellow. SP is too classy to respond to you, but I am not. You are a putz. The only one here yankin someone’s chain is you. You are the only poster here with nothing related to football or the topic.

Come and help us with the hurricane clean up and help others less fortunate than yourself. That is what the SP family has done throughout their lives.

Come help with the Neighborhood Watch that I work on with the SP family.

On topic: when a local sportscaster announced the injured list for LSU, I gasped. These young men who played so much early will have to play vs. Gamecocks.

    Get well soon, Kwon!

    Geaux Tigers! Tigers Geaux!
