One of the more pleasant surprises of the 2012 season has been Duke, which, just halfway through the year, is one win away from becoming bowl eligible for the first time in nearly two decades.
With an ACC game against Virginia Tech on tap for this weekend and that elusive sixth win within its reach, the Blue Devils could have their starting quarterback on the field. Maybe.
Sean Renfree suffered an elbow injury in the second half of a Week 6 win over Wake Forest and didn’t play in the win over Virginia this past weekend. He did, though, return to practice this week, although head coach David Cutcliffe was noncommittal as to the senior’s availability for the Hokies.
“He and Anthony are going to trade reps and work,” Cutcliffe said. “We’re just going to see where his health is. But he had a good start to the week. We’ll see how the week goes.”
Anthony Boone played well in place of Renfree, throwing for more than 200 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions in the win. Renfree, though, is currently fourth among ACC quarterbacks in passing efficiency and his presence would certainly aid the Blue Devils as they look to both remain unbeaten in conference play and chalk up their sixth win in seven attempts this season.
