Getty ImagesUpdated 4:15 p.m ET: Well, this was appropriate. Duke jumps out to a 20-0 lead over Virginia Tech before falling 41-20. The Hokies scored 41 (!!!) straight points to earn the win.
The Blue Devils still have plenty of time to get to bowl eligibility, but this would have been a nice security blanket if Duke could get it today.

So, 5-1 Duke is one half away from being bowl eligible for the first time since the 1994 Hall of Fame Bowl.
Just think about that for a second.
Virginia Tech needs to be doing some thinking of their own at halftime, trailing the Blue Devils 20-17 at the half. To VT’s credit, though, this team was down 20-0 before scratching its way back with 17 unanswered points.
Hokies quarterback Logan Thomas rebounded from a rough start to score a touchdown with under a minute to play.
Is Duke’s hot start enough to hold on to for 30 more minutes? We’ll see, but a victory by the Blue Devils would be equally monumental for Duke as it would be devastating for VT.
This Duke team has really stepped it up this season – AND their coach is a class act. Unfortunately, there is a real possibility that they will not qualify for a bowl after notching a 5-1 start.
I really like this Duke football team, but it’s unacceptable to allow 41 unanswered points when you’re up 20-0 after the 1st quarter on the road. They also need to work on their tackling because it’s atrocious. All that being said I really wish they’re bowl bound this season. Cutcliffe is a class act, and has really turned that program around.
