Kansas State survives Iowa State, Farmageddon

Kirk Herbstreit predicted on College GameDay this morning that today’s game between No. 6 Kansas State and Iowa State would be close and likely not very pretty.

Predictions are a shot in the dark, but that was about as accurate as you could get gazing into the Farmageddon crystal ball. Indeed, the Wildcats were able to wind out the clock and leave Ames with a 27-21 win over the Cyclones.

K-State is a well-disciplined, focused team. For that, I wasn’t buying into the whole “trap game’ warning; Iowa State could finish just about anywhere but first or last in the Big 12 this year. However, ISU’s,defense matches up well with K-State’s offense, so the upset alert was certainly warranted on that front. But, the Wildcats were able to survive and advance to 6-0 on the season Next week, KSU travels to Morgantown to take on West Virginia.

It may not always be flashy -- in fact, it’s very anti-Big 12 -- but Kansas State has to be considered one of the two or three teams capable of winning the Big 12 at this point. Oklahoma, as we’ll discuss later once the drumming in Dallas is over, looks like it’s back on track; WVU is in the discussion too.

Speaking of being in the discussion, Collin Klein should be getting an invite to New York for the Heisman if he keeps up his play. Geno Smith gets the publicity for the gaudy numbers, but Klein is the cornerstone of what makes the Wildcats so difficult to stop.

Not to mention fun to watch.
