While there may be some a lot of divisiveness among the fans, there’s no doubt who the voters in the two major polls feel is the top team in the country.
For the first time all season, Alabama was ranked No. 1 by all 59 coaches who vote in the USA Today poll. A short time later, the Associated Press made it a clean sweep for the defending BcS champions.
All 60 voters in the AP poll tabbed the Tide as the No. 1 team in the nation, marking the third straight week UA has been a unanimous choice of the media. And, for the fourth straight week, idle Oregon sits right behind at No. 2.
Just as it did in the coaches’ poll, West Virginia’s loss to Texas Tech cost the Mountaineers double-digit spots in the rankings as WVU fell all the way from No. 5 to No. 17. And, just as was the case in the coaches’ poll, South Carolina’s loss to LSU didn’t cost the Gamecocks’ a top-ten ranking as the other USC fell from No. 3 to No. 9.
LSU’s win over the Gamecocks bumped the Tigers up three to No. 6.
Oklahoma is the only new team in the Top Ten from a week ago, climbing from No. 13 to No. 10. Kansas State (No. 4), Notre Dame (No. 5) and Oregon State (No. 8) all moved up two spots apiece, while Florida (No. 3) and Ohio State (No. 7) each moved up one.
Mississippi State was the biggest mover inside the Top 25, jumping up four spots to No. 15 following the Bulldogs’ win over unranked Tennessee. That gives the SEC six teams ranked 15th or better, with Georgia (No. 13) being the other.
The Red Raiders romp over WVU left an impression on the voters as Tech went from unranked all the way up to No. 17. Ohio University was the only other team to break into the Top 25 this week, coming in at No. 25. It marks the first time since the final poll of the 1968 season that the Bobcats have cracked the AP rankings.
Texas (No. 15) and Louisiana Tech (No. 23) both fell out of the rankings.
