A second in-stadium medical issue in a little over a year will apparently have no impact whatsoever on Jerry Kill immediately returning to his job as Minnesota’s head coach.
Following the Gophers’ loss Saturday, Kill suffered a seizure in his private locker room at TCF Bank Stadium that led to an ambulance trip and an overnight hospital stay. The good news is that Kill was released Sunday morning and is back at home.
The better news for the Gophers is that the tests performed on the well-liked Kill came back positive and he’s been cleared to return to work from what was called a minor seizure.
“All tests confirm that he remains in excellent health,” team physician Dr. Pat Smith said in a statement released by the school. “His only concern is his team and his staff, and he is excited to resume his normal coaching duties.”
According to defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys, the fact that the seizure occurred at the stadium made the event appear worse than what it actually was as a seizure at his home may not have even required hospitalization.
“If this had happened 30 minutes later at home, there’s no big deal about it,” Claeys said by way of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “But when it happens (at the stadium), you have no choice but to get an ambulance and get him to the hospital.”
