Backup Bobcat lineman arrested on felony charge

It’s been a hell of a first half of the 2012 season for Ohio University on the field, with the Bobcats unbeaten start earning the football program its first Associated Press ranking since 1968.

Unfortunately, an off-field incident could keep the Bobcats in the college football headlines for all the wrong reasons.

According to the Associated Press, offensive lineman Mike Lucas was one of five individuals arrested on felonious assault charges Monday. The incident that led to the arrest occurred early Sunday morning, a few hours after the Bobcats went to 7-0 with a six-point win over Akron.

Other than the five men allegedly attacking a freshman student who was sitting on an on-campus bench, no details were given. The school has yet to comment on the situation involving one of its football players, although it appears highly unlikely Lucas will be available for at least the short-term.

This season, Lucas has played in four games and is listed as the No. 2 right guard on Ohio’s most recent depth chart.
