Snubbed by Vandy, Northwestern answers the call for more MACtion

Yesterday, Northwestern and Ohio State received snail mail via horse and buggy from Vanderbilt* informing them that it would be backing out of scheduled games in 2013 (and, in Northwestern’s case, 2014 as well).

Northwestern hasn’t taken long to fill one of those open dates. The school announced Friday that it would be hosting Western Michigan next season to replace one of those games.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming Coach Cubit and the Broncos to Ryan Field for the first time next September,” said Pat Fitzgerald in a statement. “Coach has been a great friend for a long time and he runs a very successful program we have the utmost respect for.”

Ohio State is still looking to find a replacement for its 2013 game previously scheduled against the Commodores.

(*To Vandy’s credit, they’ve at least apologized for not even having the decency to call ahead of time)
