Snubbed by Vandy, Northwestern answers the call for more MACtion

Adonis Smith, Drake Dunsmore, Judes Amilcar AP

Yesterday, Northwestern and Ohio State received snail mail via horse and buggy from Vanderbilt* informing them that it would be backing out of scheduled games in 2013 (and, in Northwestern’s case, 2014 as well).

Northwestern hasn’t taken long to fill one of those open dates. The school announced Friday that it would be hosting Western Michigan next season to replace one of those games.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming Coach Cubit and the Broncos to Ryan Field for the first time next September,” said Pat Fitzgerald in a statement. “Coach has been a great friend for a long time and he runs a very successful program we have the utmost respect for.”

Ohio State is still looking to find a replacement for its 2013 game previously scheduled against the Commodores.

(*To Vandy’s credit, they’ve at least apologized for not even having the decency to call ahead of time)

    These things happen, I’m glad Vandy atleast apologized, you can’t ask for much more when something is mishandled. I hope Ohio State finds a good opponent for next year to replace this schedule change. I read previously that both BYU and Bama have openings, while I don’t believe we are on Bama’s level(yet), I think BYU would be an excellent game for where we will be.

    West Virginia is open. A nice game to start the season. Have the world wide leader work with this. Play it in Cleveland or Cincinnati.

    Vandy = cowardly chickens.

    I understand they had conf issues but to cancel with less than a year’s notice and to do it by letter (no phone call) is cowardly.
