Big loss: Chizik confirms TE Lutzenkirchen is done for the year

Sanders Commings, Philip Lutzenkirchen AP

Auburn’s worst start to the season since 1952 just got more depressing if you so happen to cry “War Eagle!”

In addition to losing today’s game against Vanderbilt 17-13, Auburn coach Gene Chizik confirmed that tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen has been lost for the remainder of the season with an apparent hip injury. Lutzenkirchen traveled to Nashville with the team but did not play. first reported that the tight end may be done for the year.

“He’s definitely a leader on the team and he’s obviously a great player,” quarterback Clint Moseley said. “He’s still going to be here, being the emotional leader, but it’s a big loss.”

Lutzenkirchen was second on the team in receptions (15) and receiving yards (139). Just a tough break for a productive player, and by all accounts, a great kid.

Lutzenkirchen is a good one. It’s sad to see things like this.

    I wish him well.

Sad news. Can’t believe the number of injuries this year in college and the pros. Haven’t seen any stats, but it just seems like more than the norm.

  3. cometkazie says: Oct 20, 2012 6:22 PM

Seems that way to me, also, Deb.

  4. Deb says: Oct 20, 2012 6:25 PM

It’s bizarre, cometkazie. No matter how much they alter the game in the NFL in a supposed attempt to improve safety, the injury situation just gets worse.

By the way, cometkazie, John Taylor seems to be going through male menopause. First, he removed a perfectly innocent post I made on Alabama’s rivalries and now he has banned me from commenting on any article he writes. Ben handles criticism well, but beware of criticizing other bloggers. So … if I don’t see you on the Bama/Tennessee thread, you’ll know why :)

  6. bamasleeper13 says: Oct 20, 2012 7:53 PM

Wow I hope not! I always enjoy your comments! Keep them coming, Roll Tide!

  7. Deb says: Oct 20, 2012 7:56 PM

    @bamasleeper13 …

Oh … it’s true. And I appreciate the positive feedback. Please post on Taylor’s threads that you’d like to see my comments.

    Does Deb ever STFU?

  9. Deb says: Oct 20, 2012 11:31 PM

    @taintedlombardis …

No, honey … not if I think it will make a little squirt like you happy.

  10. micklethepickle says: Oct 21, 2012 1:50 AM

Anywhere that a post regarding Alabama football is made, or a rapist needs defending, Deb is there eager and willing.

  11. thecrazyasianinseccountry says: Oct 21, 2012 4:29 AM

I’m banned from all NFL comments because I defended the Saints.
I hope JT didn’t ban you for that, I too enjoyed reading all your comments, not to mention the fact that you, and a few other, actual get my awful humor.

    Deb, CrazyAsian,

The banning of posts on profootballtalk is God awful! Florio has his goons take down any posts that sniffs at him accepting criticism. I have not see much on this site, but I wouldn’t be surprised. Some authors of these posts do not understand that if you open the door to criticize others, then you should rightfully allow other’s to criticize in return. Unfortunately, freedom of speech only applies to the writers in many cases. It’s disappointing that some adults cannot handle criticism. Meanwhile, on the probasketballtalk, it is a free for all over there. People cuss, rip the writers, and are very ugly overall in nature. Not much consistency across the NBC Sports platform being used for the set of websites.

  13. Deb says: Oct 21, 2012 1:16 PM

    @thecrazyasian and lucky …

NBC supervises the moderators on PFT, and you’re right. They’re terrible. They’re interns and switch out every few months. Some of them have common sense, but others will cut almost anything. But I don’t think Florio personally minds criticism because he allowed it before the moderators were hired by the network.

John Taylor and I share the belief that posts shouldn’t be censored except in extreme circumstances. So in the absence of any direct communication from him, I can must assume he’s just pissed at me.

From the time I first posted here, I always defended “our lovely host” anytime someone slammed him and never criticized CFT myself. But times have changed and I now relate to John as I do Ben and the PFT writers: objectively. Last week, I made an editorial criticism of two posts, one Ben’s and one his. The criticisms were legitimate and others agreed with me. Still, John jumped in to tell me off. He probably took the criticism personally because he’s not used to getting anything but praise from me. On Friday, he pulled one of my posts from one of Ben’s threads and I said it was hypocritical to pull a football post when he leaves up comments insulting my sex life. That’s pretty tame compared to what tell Florio’s moderators 😉 Next thing, I was banned from posting on all John’s articles.

He’s the guy with the power. And he’s exercising it.

Auburn in very big trouble, seems they are in need of a OC and DC and maybe a new head coach. Was a great game to watch Bama keep rolling and them Gators seem back to old form.LSU keeps struggling but imo will be a 2 loss team this season when matched with the Tide.Well im over here in South Carolina visiting friends for a week,by the way Congrats Deb on another Tide win.To bad about Lutz takin a hip injury but i guess he cant carry the Tigers most the season without getting hurt.Im gone Fishin.

  15. Deb says: Oct 21, 2012 3:42 PM

Thank, kozbee, for the congrats here and on the other thread, but I am not allowed to post on any article written by John Taylor.

  16. Deb says: Oct 21, 2012 4:07 PM

So it was just random that I couldn’t comment on ANY of your threads but could comment on Ben’s.

Well, folks, John and I have been communicating–what a novel idea for two professional communicators! We have determined that John did not deliberately ban me from his articles–although I still can’t post on anything he’s written. And I wasn’t being a lying drama queen. I really can’t post on his articles but can post on Ben’s. So it was natural to assume John had shut me out.

He has lifted my CFT ban and we’re playing nice. Hopefully, someone will discover what bizarre technical glitch has led to this strange episode of As the Football Blog Turns.

  21. Deb says: Oct 21, 2012 10:48 PM

And hopefully that someone will fix the glitch because I still can’t post on any article written by John Taylor. But I can post on articles written by Ben Kercheval. John says he didn’t do it, so it’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever encountered, and I work in WordPress regularly.

  22. lakesidegator says: Oct 22, 2012 10:27 AM

    Good call, John.
    Please reconsider, Ben.
Because somebody doesn’t have a life offline.

  23. Deb says: Oct 22, 2012 11:40 AM

Aw, lakesidegator, how sweet that you care … so very much. Sorry to disappoint, but we’re all pals.

As for my offline life, like you, I could pretend I’m a lawyer. Or what is it this week? Butcher? Baker? Candlestick maker?

  24. lakesidegator says: Oct 22, 2012 12:06 PM

So funny how you un-cerebrally prove another’s point. I get hoome from an o-o-t trip and check my 46 in-box messages, and there you are/have been (more often than anyone else). I post, and there you are, instantly (STILL on line). The difference is not what you self-flatteringly put as “care.” It is that when I sign off in a few moments, I’m going to resume my life…knowing that when I next return, I will see that you remained, in my absence. Unless you understand that by not responding, this time, you might project an appearance that you also have left the computer and spent some time in the real world. You know, the one that you can touch in non-keyboard-related ways. As for me “pretending” to be an attorney, report that to the Florida Bar, won’t you? I think you’l discover that I have been a member since June, 1976. In good standing, btw. See ya later (I’ll bet).

  25. Deb says: Oct 22, 2012 2:19 PM

Yeah … I’ll post again. Why not? This is fun.

You’re getting 46 in-box messages from a football blog? And you’re chastising others for not having a life?? LOL Most of us are too busy with our lives to flood our in-boxes with football posts.

I don’t live online, but I do work here. And I enjoy popping over to the football blogs periodically. It’s healthier than the old cigarette breaks. But I’m interested in the game. I may challenge someone else’s comment on the game, but I don’t run around dogging other commenters as you do. That’s kinda … sandbox, don’t you think?

As for your legal skills, your comments about Jordan Jefferson last year demonstrated the kind of knowledge you’d pick up at the corner bar, not the Florida bar. The proof on that is in the pudding, as they say. Where is Jordan now? Things played out exactly as I said they would. But try not to keep being so bitter, dear. You might pop a blood vessel.

  26. cometkazie says: Oct 22, 2012 6:44 PM

Deb, if they had to comment only on the game, many of our fellows/gals here on the blog would be hard pressed to say anything.

And remember, it’s only a game.

  27. Deb says: Oct 22, 2012 6:55 PM

    @cometkazie …

    This is true! LOL

Thanks for being a pal. Sure has been the weirdest couple of days I’ve spent on the blogs … and that’s saying something! I still can’t post on John’s articles and no one knows why. Maybe by next week’s games :)

  28. lakesidegator says: Oct 23, 2012 9:33 AM

@deb — why do you post under FOUR different screen names? just curious.

  29. Deb says: Oct 23, 2012 1:17 PM

John and Ben can confirm that I post only as Deb, here and at PFT where I also got to know some of the writers. You may like me or hate me, but I am who I am and don’t pretend to be anyone else. If I were willing to change personas, rather than worrying about whether John had blocked me from his threads, I’d simply have changed my ID and come in as someone else. Since I was still able to post on Ben’s threads, he clearly hadn’t banned my IP address and that would have been an easier solution than making an ass of myself over what turned out to be a tech problem.

You’re not too bright, are you?

Out of curiosity, though … who else am I supposed to be?

  30. lakesidegator says: Oct 25, 2012 8:01 AM

    Debby Head
    Deborah Abrell
    (maybe only one l)

  31. Deb says: Oct 25, 2012 10:01 PM

I’ve never seen a post by “Debby Head” and would never choose such a username because of the potential for vulgar jokes. Have never seen any posts by “Deborah Abrell,” but have seen “abrellbama” posting here off and on. Perhaps they are the same person, but neither is me.

I started as “Deb” on PFT a few years ago, and have never seen a reason to be anyone else on either site–even when I’ve become a pariah for taking controversial positions. Online or off, I’m honest with my views and live with the consequences.

  32. lakesidegator says: Oct 26, 2012 7:00 PM

    Will keep y’all posted.
