Big loss: Chizik confirms TE Lutzenkirchen is done for the year

Auburn’s worst start to the season since 1952 just got more depressing if you so happen to cry “War Eagle!”

In addition to losing today’s game against Vanderbilt 17-13, Auburn coach Gene Chizik confirmed that tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen has been lost for the remainder of the season with an apparent hip injury. Lutzenkirchen traveled to Nashville with the team but did not play. Rivals.com first reported that the tight end may be done for the year.

“He’s definitely a leader on the team and he’s obviously a great player,” quarterback Clint Moseley said. “He’s still going to be here, being the emotional leader, but it’s a big loss.”

Lutzenkirchen was second on the team in receptions (15) and receiving yards (139). Just a tough break for a productive player, and by all accounts, a great kid.
