Oklahoma State QB done for the year with knee injury

And, no, it’s not the season-opener starter, Wes Lunt.

Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said during his Sunday teleconference that J.W. Walsh, who has been filling in for Lunt since he went down with a knee injury against Louisiana-Lafayette last month, is out for the year with a knee injury of his own. Gundy would not specify the nature of the injury -- Walsh’s high school coach says it’s a leg fracture -- but did say Walsh suffered it early in yesterday’s win over Iowa State and played with it for the rest of the game.

Several beat writers on the call thought Gundy was joking.

Gundy also said tight end Justin Horton is out for the year.

Oklahoma State’s updated depth chart from today listed Lunt or Walsh as the starter, which has been the case for the past several weeks. Walsh has 1,467 yards passing on the season with 10 touchdowns and three interceptions. Lunt has just under 600 yards passing with four touchdowns and three interceptions.

The only other quarterback to record passing stats for the season is Clint Chelf. Lunt is possible to return next week against TCU, which would confirm that a redshirt for the freshman is not in the offing if it came to fruition.
