Even as we and others discuss how hot the seat on which Gene Chizik sits is or isn’t, there are things immeasurably more important than a stupid game of football, chief among those things being family.
Sadly, the Auburn head coach is in the midst of dealing with one of the biggest losses anyone should have to endure.
AU officials confirmed Monday that Chizik’s mother, Rita Chizik, passed away earlier this morning. Mrs. Chizik was 86, and no cause of death was given.
Chizik’s father, Gene Sr., passed away 10 years ago.
“The Chiziks appreciate the prayers and support that have been sent from the Auburn family,” the university said in a statement. “We ask that everyone respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.”
