Mother of Gene Chizik passes away

Gene Chizik AP

Even as we and others discuss how hot the seat on which Gene Chizik sits is or isn’t, there are things immeasurably more important than a stupid game of football, chief among those things being family.

Sadly, the Auburn head coach is in the midst of dealing with one of the biggest losses anyone should have to endure.

AU officials confirmed Monday that Chizik’s mother, Rita Chizik, passed away earlier this morning.  Mrs. Chizik was 86, and no cause of death was given.

Chizik’s father, Gene Sr., passed away 10 years ago.

“The Chiziks appreciate the prayers and support that have been sent from the Auburn family,” the university said in a statement. “We ask that everyone respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.”

Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to Coach Chizik and his family.

I don’t care how old you are, or what the circumstances might be, it’s tough to be without any parents. Just not a good thing for your soul.

    Best wishes to Coach Chizik.

My condolences to Coach Chizik and his family.

Who is the moron who continually posted negative thumbs each time there is a death and all the good people here on CFT are doing is offering best wishes and prayers? Shame on you.

The last time there was a “death in the family” post I thought the down voter was trying to passively get across the point that they feel prayer doesn’t help anybody or anything but now they are down voting people who don’t mention prayer anywhere in their comments.

Either they have NOTHING better to do with their life or they REALLY hate people feeling sorry for one another.

One can argue the idea of a “supreme creator/entity” all day but as an Alabama graduate and atheist, I truly feel pain for Chizik and the loss of his creator. I personally cannot imagine the passing of my mother without becoming a teary eyed emotional mess.

Lost my mom while I was on a business trip. She had a series of heart attacks. I was actually told NOT to come home because she was “feeling fine, wants to go home”. I didn’t even get a chance to say goodbye, or tell her how much I love her one last time. So I, unfortunately, have also experienced this (as many others have shared) and can sympathize with Coach Chizik and what he and hi family must be feeling.

So sorry for your loss, Coach. I hope God comforts you and your family through a very difficult time.
