‘Very good chance’ Jarvis Jones plays vs. Gators

When Georgia takes the field Saturday for one of the biggest games of the Mark Richt era, the Bulldogs should have one of the top defensive players in the country in tow.

Linebacker Jarvis Jones sprained an ankle in the Oct. 6 loss to South Carolina and, after a bye weekend, missed this past Saturday’s close win over Kentucky due to the injury. Sunday, though, Richt seemed to like the chances of his All-American being available for the annual rivalry game with Florida this weekend.

“My hope’s that he’ll be able to practice as early as Monday, is what I hope. Whether or not that happens, I’m not sure,” the head coach said. “He’s definitely making progress, and I think there’s a very good chance he’ll play.

“But again, if he’s not healthy enough to go then we’re not gonna do it. But I think there’s a good chance he will.”

If the Gators win this weekend, they’ll clinch the SEC East and one of the two spots in the conference championship game. If the Bulldogs pull off the upset? UGA would need only to handle Ole Miss and Auburn -- combined SEC wins this season: one -- to claim its second consecutive divisional title.
