We posted a video (or a link to a video because of some NSFW language) last week of Wyoming coach Dave “Flyboy!” Christensen going bananas (B-A-N-A-N-A-S!) on Air Force coach Troy Calhoun after a 28-27 loss. Christensen had already issued an apology for the profanity-laced rant, but we called for more action from either the University of Wyoming and/or the Mountain West Conference for what was some seriously out-of-line behavior.
Someone listened. Or, just had a dose of common sense.
Wyoming athletic director Tom Burman said in a Monday press conference that Christensen has been fined $50,000 and suspended for one week for his outburst. Christensen, who was notified this morning of his punishment and will be reinstated Sunday, will not be allowed to attend practice or be in team facilities. Cowboys assistant Pete Kaligis will act as interim coach for this Saturday’s game against No. 21 Boise State.
As for how this situation would affect Christensen’s job security — Wyoming has just one win this season — Burman said the plan is for Christensen to be the team’s coach next year.
