James Franklin not expected to play against Kentucky

As of a week ago, Missouri’s oft-injured quarterback James Franklin said that he planned to play this weekend against Kentucky.

It appears that plan has changed. Tigers coach Gary Pinkel said Monday that he does not anticipate Franklin playing against the Wildcats. Pinkel added that Franklin has been taking reps during practice, but has not been running.

Franklin’s been dealing with a shoulder issue that began in the spring and carried over into the regular season and then suffered a sprained MCL in a loss to Vanderbilt earlier this month. That knee injury would ultimately sideline Franklin in another loss to Alabama.

Corbin Berkstresser has basically been the team’s starter this season, but has struggled in the last two games for Mizzou. In the past game and a half, Berkstresser has completed well under 50 percent of his passes (21-of-59) and has thrown two interceptions with just one touchdown.
