Arkansas’ Brandon Mitchell suspended for Ole Miss game

Rutgers Scarlet Knights v Arkansas Razorbacks AP

Given how the past several months have gone for the Arkansas football program, yet another setback for the Razorbacks comes as no surprise at all.

In a very brief statement, UA announced that wide receiver Brandon Mitchell has been suspended for today’s game against Ole Miss. ¬†Other than the obligatory “violation of unspecified team rules,” no reason for the one-game suspension was given.

Mitchell is currently third on the Hogs in receptions (15) and second in receiving yards (257).

Maybe NCAA teams already have one, but in reading all these stories, it sounds as though what they need is some kind of personal development coordinator who teaches classes in decisionmaking and leadership, and serves as personal adviser and confessor. Coaches responsible for multi-million-dollar programs, whose jobs are on the line every second, can’t fill that role as they did before college ball became such a big business.
