Longhorns will stay with David Ash at QB against Texas Tech

David Ash AP

Case McCoy may have had to come in and win Saturday’s game against Kansas for Texas, but Day 1 starter David Ash will take the field first this weekend against Texas Tech.

Mack Brown said in his Monday teleconference that there would be no change at quarterback despite Ash’s poor play against the Jayhawks.

Ash gives the Horns the best chance to win, but the headscratcher from Saturday was replacing Ash with McCoy in the fourth quarter… and then calling seven straight run plays. McCoy ended up proving his mettle by leading the game-winning drive, but the Horns also started giving the ball to guys like Marquise Goodwin and D.J. Monroe too, something that should have happened more than three total times in the game.

I believe Harsin has something against McCoy maybe it’s not his player but it needs to stop,Case is a better QB and player than Ash,I wouldn’t let Ash start a high school game. The play calling is also very out there, why only use Goodwin,Monroe,Gray and others only a few plays a game,I was taken in by his Boise St offense like a lot of others but just like Davis Harsins play calling is very predictable so I blame him for the bumbling offense. The defense I just don’t have a clue I have never seen such bad tackling pee-wee players do better than them.I am a life long fan over 45+ years of being a Orangeblood and that game was the worst ever.

    Applewhite/Simms all over again.

It’s time for Harsin to take his trick plays and go back to the MWC or WAC. Texas needs to step up and get some big game coaches. To much wasted talent every year not seeing the field.

Neither one is an Applewhite or especially a Simms. Applewhite would have had the Heisman if Chrissy!s daddy hadn’t had a deal with DeLoss. Of course MB wanted RGIII to play DB and wasn’t interested in Johnny Football. Curious! Texas always get the best talent (coach February) and somehow they can’t get them to play to their potential.

You’re statement about Case being a better QB than Ash clearly shows you know next to nothing about football. Ash has superior arm strength but has lost chemistry with his WRs as a result of Mack micromanaging the play calling. Mack insists on a power running game and Harsin has to run the practices at a much slower pace which has caused Ash to regress. The whole team is terrible as it stands. You can’t call a late game comeback by a backup against a team that hasn’t won a conference game in 16 tries a virtuoso performance. Case has the clutch gene, but is no more than a Div II QB.

With two mediocre quarterbacks to choose from, the only thing that matters is, who does the entire team respond to, play the hardest for when he is in the game — and that quarterback, my friends, is Case McCoy. It’s the intangibles. Obviously….

To deucez2 I have forgotten more football than you yourself will ever know.I know what I am talking about, not saying Case is the answer but it sure as hell isn’t Ash do you ever listen to him talk he says he has learned so much these last few weeks and he can turn it on when its needed, give me a break he’s has no attitude no swagger he is a scared little rabbit, just watch the team when he isn’t in their confidence is overflowing they play harder and meaner.Brown isn’t in control of anything anymore he has given that power to that loser Harsin and Diaz,Harsins problem is he wants to many systems going in a game, what was his excuse this week when asked why he didn’t use those plays earlier I quote “Those were my silver bullet plays we knew they would work at any time” what a loser.Ash is his guy he doesn’t want a McCoy running his offense,he has taken so many 4 and 5 star recruits and made them irrelevant.I hope and pray he goes back to what ever rock he crawled out from!! End of story.
