Boise down two key secondary pieces due to injury, suspension

Just as Boise State’s had turned the corner on a bit of early-season malaise, the turning of which paralleled a steady climb in the rankings, the Broncos have suffered a one-two punch to the secondary.

Cornerback Bryan Douglas suffered a torn ACL in the win over Wyoming this past weekend, head coach Chris Petersen confirmed Monday. As a result, the redshirt sophomore will miss the remainder of the 2012 season, and his availability for summer camp next year is uncertain according to Petersen.

While Douglas wasn’t listed as a starter, he played enough as the third corner that the Idaho Statesman‘s Chadd Cripe wrote “Petersen considered him a starter.”

Additionally, safety Lee Hightower is indefinitely suspended for unspecified reasons, a punitive measure that began with the Wyoming game. He had started the first seven games of the season prior to his suspension.
