BYU-Cincy scheduled to meet in the next few years

Scheduling is a daunting task for BYU, a football independent. For an insightful look at the challenges the university faces, check out this Q&A with Cougars athletic director Tom Holmoe from the Deseret News. Keeping on the subject of scheduling, the Cougars have announced a home-and-home series with Cincinnati.

The two-game series will begin in 2015 in Provo on Oct. 24. The two sides are scheduled to meet again on Nov. 12, 2016 in Cincinnati. The 2015 game will mark the first-ever football game between the two.

“We are very pleased to announce this home and home series with BYU,” said Cincinnati athletic director Whit Babcock in a prepared statement. “They have a storied history and we look forward to competing against an opponent of their caliber. It should be a wonderful addition to our home schedule in Nippert Stadium for our ticket holders as well as serving as a great student-athlete experience for our players when we travel to Provo.”

There have been rumors that perhaps BYU will still join the Big East at some point down the road. However, there’s been no real traction to that speculation since talks reportedly ended between the two sides last year.
